Olivine is administering PG&E’s Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP) to reduce the demand of electricity during heat-related extreme weather events. Business customers in PG&E’s service area that directly enroll can earn $1 per kWh by reducing their energy use during events. Aggregators and demand response providers can also participate.

The goal of the program is to reduce the likelihood of rotating power outages during times of high grid stress, while minimizing costs to customers. Events will be triggered by Day-Ahead Alerts issued by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), and participants will be notified by 5 p.m. the day before the event occurs. Events can occur any day of the week between 4-9 p.m. and can last anywhere from 1 to 5 hours. Participation in events is entirely voluntary and no financial penalties will result from not meeting or exceeding the nominated targets.

Customers can directly enroll in ELRP, or participate through their Base Interruptible Program (BIP) aggregator, Capacity Bidding Program (CBP) aggregator, or demand response providers. Additional information and a link to enroll is available at elrp.olivineinc.com.
