Distributed Energy Resources: A Clean Energy Pathway to Mitigating Climate Change

Please join Olivine Inc. and friends for a fun-filled and thought-provoking evening at the PG&E Pacific Energy Center in San Francisco. This affiliate event of the Global Climate Action Summit will bring together electric energy industry experts, policy makers, academic researchers, community activists, environmental advocates, and sustainability strategists for a networking reception (organic beer and wine provided), panel discussion, and a question and answer session. The topic of the evening will be the role of distributed energy resources in modernizing the electric grid for increased resilience, energy justice, and cost efficiency with the overarching goal of reducing CO2 emissions from fossil fueled power plants and vehicles to mitigate the impacts of global climate change.

The highlight of the event will be two 45-minute moderated panel discussions with industry experts on the role of distributed energy resources (i.e., solar, wind, energy storage, demand response, etc.) in modernizing the electrical grid, the challenges and opportunities of developing a clean energy portfolios on the interactive grid, and the role the modern grid and its electric mobility component will have on mitigating climate change. Panelists include:

  • Dan Kammen – Professor of Energy, UC Berkeley
  • Nancy Skinner – California State Senator
  • Mark Toney – Executive Director, TURN
  • Matt Horton – Chief Commercial Officer, Proterra
  • Timothy Lipman – Co-Director, Transportation Sustainability Research Center
  • Robert Anderson – CTO, Olivine, Inc.

The focus of the moderated panel sessions will be to highlight how regulatory, utility, DER industry, DER manufacturer, and academic and research entities are working together to bring a clean and renewable DER portfolio to fruition in order to provide clean, cost-efficient, and reliable energy to the masses. Discussions will center around how we got to where we are today, the challenges that have been overcome, the challenges that remain, and the path forward to realizing the goals of the clean and modern grid. The moderated panel sessions will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session with the panelists and audience members.

The 2018 Global Climate Action Summit will bring people together from around the world to showcase climate action and inspire deeper commitments from national governments, and one another, in support of the Paris Agreement. It will be a moment to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of states, regions, cities, companies, investors and citizens with respect to climate action. It will also be a launchpad for deeper worldwide commitments and accelerated action from countries—supported by all sectors of society—that can put the globe on track to prevent dangerous climate change and realize the historic Paris Agreement.
